My wife is under 5" and generally petite, and this does seem to translate into everything else being smaller as well. I'm not sure what the research is, but overall size and internal size does seem to match up in my experience with women.

And I don't mean purely "weight" size, but bone structure, y'know? I'm sure if she put on a lot of weight, she's still be small inside. So look at the overall frame.
