This must be the ultimate in computer gaming. 27 years old and no winner yet.
What am I talking about?
NetHack, a Rogue like game. This is an originally UNIX based game, running inside a DOS shell, allthough it has been updated to now be available as GUI version for Windows, MAC, Atari, Amiga and Linux, which is available for free from the same website.
I first got this when it came out in 1985 and it is difficult, really difficult, allthough all it is is a very basic Dungeons and Dragons scenario.
It requires loads of paper for taking notes, an excellent memory of where you may have left stuff to be collected and used later and a good command of all the different keystrokes at your disposal.
Now, I am really not into computer games at all but this has to be the one exception. I only rediscovered it a day or so ago after having failed to find it on the web myself, I just couldn't remember its name and what I did recall didn't seem to ring a bell with the search engines.
So, if you are keen to have a bash, below are some links to their website but be forewarned, this is highly addictive and you may find yourself killed pretty quickly on your first attempts but don't despair, you'll get the hang of it and who knows, you might be the one to make it to level 20 and find the ammulette, in which case you'd be the first to do so. I'd swear blind, you'll go down in history.
